FAQ

Who are the YC partners?

YC has roughly 20 group partners led by CEO Garry Tan. Most are former YC founders — Michael Seibel (Twitch), Dalton Caldwell, Jared Friedman (Scribd), Tom Blomfield (Monzo), Diana Hu, Pete Koomen (Optimizely), and Harj Taggar are among the senior partners.

Who is the CEO of Y Combinator?

Garry Tan has been CEO since January 2023. He took over from Geoff Ralston, who replaced Sam Altman in 2019. Paul Graham led YC from founding in 2005 until 2014.

How do YC partners help founders?

Each company is assigned a group partner for the batch. You get weekly 1:1 office hours, bi-weekly group office hours with 5 other companies, and informal Slack access. Partners focus on growth, fundraising, and team issues — not product reviews.

Do YC partners invest personally?

Many do. After the batch, partners can write personal checks or participate via YC Continuity. There is no obligation either way — the standard $500K deal is YC firm-level.
